Shaping Culture

As a Christian learning community, we are called to shape a culture that reflects the love, grace, and truth of Jesus in the way we live, learn, and serve together. We seek to live Spirit-led, biblically grounded, and Christ-centred lives. Through Jesus, we learn to put others first, forgive freely, serve faithfully, care for God’s creation, stand up for those in need, celebrate one another’s success, share the good news, and live joyfully as children of the King.

Allpress and Shamy (2009) remind us that we are called to bring hope, kindness, and glimpses of God’s kingdom into everyday life by living God’s way and sharing His love with others. The story of the Bible guides us, and that story changes everything.

During staff devotions this week, we were encouraged not to overlook the small and ordinary moments of daily life. In a school community such as ours, small actions matter deeply. Through the way we live and “do school” each day, we help children understand what it means to follow Jesus. Children learn about faith not only through what we teach, but also through the words we speak, the choices we make, and the way we treat one another.

Next week, we will celebrate National Reconciliation Week. The 2026 theme, “All In,” reminds us that reconciliation requires action from all of us. At Channel, we strive to be a community where all staff, students, and families feel culturally safe, valued, and respected, including First Nations peoples and those from all cultural backgrounds.

May we continue to serve one another joyfully and wholeheartedly in all that we do.

Educational Tour of the National Capital

We are thrilled to share with you the exciting news about our recent educational tour of the national capital. From 11 May, our Years 5 and 6 students embarked on a week-long adventure filled with learning, exploration, and fun!

A Whirlwind Week

Our students had the opportunity to visit numerous iconic landmarks and institutions, immersing themselves in the rich history and culture of our nation. Some of the highlights of their trip included: 

- Parliament House

- Questacon

- Australian Institute of Sport

- National Capital Exhibition

- Australian War Memorial

- Royal Mint

- Government House

- Museum of Australian Democracy

- National Electoral Education Centre

- National Arboretum

- National Museum of Australia

- Dinosaur Museum

- Canberra Deep Space Communication Centre

Beyond the Classroom

In addition to the educational visits, our students enjoyed arrange of evening activities. They had a blast at the ten-pin bowling alley, enjoyed a twilight walk through the botanical gardens, boogied at the disco and relaxed through a movie night. These moments of relaxation and bonding were well-deserved after days filled with enriching experiences.

Gratitude and Appreciation

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff and supportive parents who made this trip possible. We have heard nothing but praise for our Channel Year 5 and 6 students, who exemplified respect, kindness, and consideration throughout the entire journey. They truly embodied the values of Channel - "Loving to learn and learning to love others."

A Week to Remember

As we reflect on this incredible week, we are so grateful to God for His protection and guidance. It was a truly memorable experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on our students' lives.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $ 300.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

We are trying something new this year! We will be organising a few cooking sessions in the ARC to get together as a school community to cook large batches of soup/stews for the lantern walk. Many hands make light work so we would love to see you there if you are able to join us.
