Parent-Teacher interviews in week 10We are heading toward the last two weeks of Term 3. Formal reports are almost all written and will be sent home on Friday 27 June. These are followed up with Parent Teacher interviews on Monday 30 June and Tuesday 1 July. You will receive a link to book a time for Parent-Teacher interviews in a SEQTA email, as well as in this newsletter. Why should you attend the Parent-Teacher interviews? A strong partnership between Teachers and Parents is crucial to the well-being and flourishing of a community and those within it and ultimately impacts your child’s learning journey. Karen Hooper (CEN) writes that “Partnership is a relationship where agreement and alignment towards a specific goal and how that might be attained is clearly understood” (Nurture magazine, June 2022). Through this partnership between school and home, teachers and parents, we find blessings and joy as well as responsibility and accountability. Hooper suggests a few ways to strengthen the partnership between parents and the school staff. Be honest about challenging seasons in your child’s life. Teachers are often very aware that things may not be quite right for the students and would love to respond and support them appropriately with the right knowledge. Seek to understand before criticising. Respect the professionalism of your child’s teacher and assume they care deeply for your child. Be careful what you say about school staff in front of your children. They need to learn to respect authority and this is modelled through you.
The written comment in the mid-year report combined with attendance of Parent-Teacher interviews provides a strong foundation for a honest conversation about something that both teacher and parent are passionate about, the growth in learning and the formation of the character of our young people.
