Topic: Belonging

Ephesians 2:19

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.”

It has been lovely to return to school after my recent trip overseas. I am so grateful for the special time I spent with my mum and two sisters as we visited the place where I was born. It was a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with my roots, enjoy traditional Dutch foods, and spend time with extended family.

While I felt a strong connection to the place, one simple statement really summed up the experience for me: “There is where I am from, but here is where I belong.” Coming back to Tasmania truly felt like coming home.

This idea of belonging has stayed with me. As Christians, we believe that God gives each of us a place and people to belong to—through faith in Jesus, we are welcomed into the family of God. This means we are deeply known, loved, and accepted—not because of what we do, but because of who we are in Him. This belonging could be anywhere on this earth, but for me it is Tasmania, Hobart and living it out through my work at Channel Christian School.

At school, we want every child and every family to feel that same sense of belonging. Just like God’s family welcomes people from all backgrounds, we aim to create a community where everyone’s story, gifts, and uniqueness are valued. Whether we are in the classroom, playground, or at home, we can remind our children that they are part of something bigger, a loving and supportive Christian Learning Community.

This week, you might like to talk with your child about what it means to belong. Who helps them feel safe and loved? How do they help others feel included? These small conversations plant big seeds of identity and purpose.

The aim of this event is to provide an opportunity for students to compete in a long distance run and to build community within the CST student cohort. This is currently the only event within CST that sees all schools gather under the CST umbrella.

All events will start with the boys race, with the girls race starting within 5 minutes of the boys start.

Event times:
10:20 – Welcome 
10:30 – Year 4
11:00 – Year 3
11:30 – Year 5
12:15 – Year 6
1:00 – Presentations of medallions, ribbons and the CST trophy to the overall winning school.

What to bring:
Students should bring the following:
A packed lunch
Water bottle
Hat
Warm clothes (optional dependent on weather)
Adequate running shoes
Full sports uniform

The event is being held at Calvin Christian School. Parents are welcome to attend.

As we settle into Term 2, our Year 3/4 class has been exploring the beautiful changes that autumn brings. Through the lens of Science, Bible Studies, and Art, students have been discovering how the natural world shifts with the seasons—and what it tells us about God's design.

We have reflected on scriptures such as Genesis 8:22 and Isaiah 40:8, learning that while the seasons change, God's Word remains constant. These verses have encouraged rich class discussions about God’s faithfulness through all seasons of life.

In Science, we have been learning about living, once-living, and non-living things as part of our Biological Sciences focus. Students explored the characteristics that define each category, using real-world examples found in our school environment. Our students brought autumn to life with vibrant leaf collages and textured nature pieces, which will be proudly displayed on our classroom window and in a few weeks at our Friday Ámped presentation.

It has been a colourful, creative, and faith-filled start to the term—and there is plenty more to come from our class throughout the year.
