Intervention at Channel

At Channel, we believe every child is uniquely created in the image of God, with their own strengths, gifts, and learning journey. Our desire is to see every student flourish, and one of the ways we support this is through timely and targeted intervention.

Research shows that when learning needs are identified and supported early, children are more likely to build strong foundations, develop confidence, and experience success as learners. If families hear us talking about intervention in Kinder or Prep, please be reassured that this is a positive and proactive step. The early years provide a valuable window of opportunity to provide help early before difficulties become more established.

We also recognise that learning support is not always a short-term journey. Some students may benefit from intervention for a brief season as they develop specific skills, while others may require ongoing support over a longer period of time. Every child's needs are different, and that's okay.

To help us make informed decisions, we use screening data to identify which students may benefit from intervention. At Channel, we use a Reading Screener (DIBELS), a Spelling Screener (LLASS or SWST) and a Numeracy Screener. We regularly review student progress to ensure the support provided remains responsive and effective. Across Week 6 and 7, teachers have been working hard to do our mid-year screeners in these areas.

One of our school values is to Grow Through Partnership, and we see intervention as exactly that; a partnership between students, parents and staff working together to help each child experience success and continue growing into all God has created them to be.
