Caring for Pajok

At the beginning of this term, I shared that our biblical thread is ‘Growing through partnership by practising hospitality’. Hospitality is about welcoming and accepting others, and using the gifts God has given us to embrace and care for those around us. This term, we are extending this beyond our local community as we use our gifts to embrace and support our global community through our ongoing partnership with Pajok Christian School.

Our amazing Community Engagement Committee has been working behind the scenes to organise our upcoming Trivia Night, with all funds raised going towards supporting Pajok. We would love for you to get involved by creating a table or joining a table with family and friends. It promises to be a fun evening together, while also making a meaningful difference.

During the evening, we will hear a short presentation and receive an update on how Pajok Christian School is progressing, including two important areas where funding is currently needed. We are particularly looking forward to sharing some photos and helping our community see the impact of our partnership.

Hot lunches begin tomorrow, and we are incredibly grateful to Mrs Hall, our administration staff and our wonderful parent volunteers for making this initiative possible. All funds raised through hot lunches will also go towards supporting Pajok Christian School.

We are encouraging our students to think about what hospitality looks like in their everyday lives. During morning line-up, we have been challenging them to consider how they can welcome others into their play, invite someone new to join their friendship group, or notice someone who might be feeling left out. These small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

As we seek to practise hospitality together, may we remember these words of Scripture:

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practise hospitality.” — Romans 12:13.

What a wonderful opportunity we have as a school community to use the gifts God has given us to welcome, serve and care for others, both here at home and across the world.

Channel has participated in the Hobart Brixhibition, run by the Tasmanian Brick Enthusiasts for many years now. In fact, it's the 10th anniversary of running Brixhibition at Channel!

The competition is free for every student to enter. The judging categories are:

1. Kinder and Prep

2. Years 1 & 2

3. Years 3 & 4

4. Years 5 & 6 

There is one winner chosen from each category at our school, and one of these will be the overall winner. The overall winner from each school has the opportunity to display their build at the Hobart Brixhibition (a fantastic display, usually during the school holidays and worth a visit), and potentially win a GRAND PRIZE. At least one Channel student has taken first prize in the past! 

Should students wish to participate, all LEGO builds are due in the ARC for display on Monday 7 September. Sections winners will be announced by Friday 11 September. 

• Individual builds on any theme can be submitted - maximum measurements 52cm x 52 cm x 52 cms.

• Assembling a LEGO set (with or without instructions) is not permitted - builds need to come from the student's imagination and own skill.

• Group builds can be submitted for display but will not be part of the judging process (still fun!).

Families of performing students are invited to come and watch their child/ren from Prep to Year 6, including the school choir, perform some pieces of music as part of a concert to showcase the arts. Due to space constraints, this performance will be for immediate family only.

Art work will be displayed on the night for your enjoyment.
