Year 5/6 Lynch are having fun with words! As part of our study of the poem, ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’ by William Wordsworth, we have written our own nature poems, using the same rhyming scheme, themes and structure. We hope you enjoy a few stanzas.

The tall grass towered and tickled the sky
As the majestic trees keep the secrets of the forest
The cockatoos singing while soaring high
I was tired so I sat down to rest
I walked and walked in the cool, cool breeze
I just love the tall trees

My cold little toes slip on some socks and I perch on my windowsill
My crystal eyes gaze at the glistening sun exciting the waves as they dance
Just gawking through the window on my toasty, cozy bed in a house on the top of the hill
But I must not hide so I must stride outside so to the door I advance
I skip outside the air cold, but nice and then i hear a crow
The over excited bird tweeting for the flowers who perform a show

Warmed water with salty pebbles

The old ancient oak trees stood guard in front of the forest
The tiny green leaves were bathed in sunlight
I felt a cold shiver, it was not the hottest
It was getting darker, it was nearly twilight
The luscious green grass waved in the breeze
The miniscule patterns on the overtowering trees

The theatrical devils howling in harmony
The curious depths of the swamp
The animals sing in symphony
With croaks, groans, tweets and chomp
How could I feel so furious?

The beautiful, auspicious, breeze welcomed and blanketed me with a pleasing presence
Though I saw a waterfall claiming addiction
Its frosty fresh and fragrant water fascinated me with its essence
And with roaring laughter it claimed my attention
Hiding behind the sprinkles and staring show of the waterfall was a smooth, silent, slab of weathered rock
Beside the waterfall laid moist, feathery moss, guarding it like giants stood
Lush, ancient trees fascinating me after my walk

The waves are free, just like me by Holly
Down there the sand is coarse and wet
But up here it's steep and dry,
I watch the birds fly and fret
As I let go of a giant sigh,
I love it here above the sea
Where the waves are free just like me

The Ocean’s Song by Eliza
I plunge into the ocean cold and deep
My snorkel strapped tight
I glance at the coral, colourful and sleek
And swim up to the sun's golden light
I dive to the bottom and scoop up sand
and watch it slowly settle into my hand

Sleeping lions, sleeping sound
Beneath the swaying trees
Laying still, as if bound,
Listening to the breeze
There I stand, still as stone,
The world is still, the earth is prone

And while I'm standing there alone,
