Partnership - Parents are part of our school community

When your child is a student at Channel Christian School you will be welcomed into a partnership with us and encouraged to be involved in your child’s learning.

We work alongside our parents, keeping you informed and up-to-date with what is happening at school.

  • Our school newsletter Channel Soundings comes out each Thursday with general news about events, activities and important dates. You can receive it as an email or as a paper copy sent to your home.
  • Class Newsletters are sent out weekly by class teachers to let you know about the teaching and learning which will take place in the week ahead, as well as special class events and activities. These are generally sent out as an email document, but you can arrange to get a paper copy if you would like to.
  •  Letters and notes are sent out via email or paper copies when necessary with information about specific events or issues.

We value the relationship between you and your child’s teacher.

  •  Early in Term 1 you’ll be invited to Meet the Teacher to hear about learning goals and the teaching program for the year ahead and chat about any questions you might have.
  •  Parents Talk Evenings also occur in early Term 1. You’ll be invited to come and talk to the classroom teacher about your child. This is a time for teachers to listen and gain further understanding about the children they are teaching. You’ll be asked to fill out a questionnaire prior to this evening and bring it along.
  • Parent Forums are held during the year on topics such as Cybersafety, positive behaviour support programs such as 1,2,3 Magic, Preparing for Adolescence and other relevant issues.
  •  Prayer Time is held each Friday following Assembly in the Principal’s Office. This is an opportunity for you to join our Principal to pray for our school and the community.

As parents, you are welcome in our school. We believe each family has something to offer and that being involved and connected helps to build a sense of community and belonging and enhances the educational experience for our children at the school.

You are welcome to be involved in:

  •  Classroom help in art, cooking, reading and more.
  •  On excursions by accompanying and assisting our teachers.
  •  In the Library by covering our books.
  • Working bees with other parents on one Saturday morning per year on specific projects and tasks. We’ll let you now the dates at the start of the year.
  • The School Fair. This is an ’all hands on deck’ event for parents and staff. It is the main fundraising event each year for Channel and is usually held in Term 1.
  •  Oliebollen Stall at the Huon Show in November. We prepare, cook and sell fresh oliebollen and it’s another of our main fundraisers.
  • Coaching and training our sporting teams. You’re welcome to help our soccer, basketball and futsal teams.

Our community is important to us and we value the links we build between our School Council – made up of parents – and the home, school and local community.

We run:

  • A Welcome Barbecue in Term 1
  • A School Fair in Term 1
  •  A Lantern Walk in Term 2
  •  Grandparents’ Day in Term 3
  •  On Ya Bike in Term 4
